Little ones in the studio last week...

It was a busy week last week so I have lots to catch you up on. I thought I would combine sneak peeks into one blog post so your news feed isn't filled with all my posts so here goes:

All those babies that came to see me last year are getting bigger and coming back to see me again, some for their 1 year portraits- I really can't believe it has been that long already! Here are some of the sweet faces that I got to be with last week.

Little Mr D. Just like his big brother, he never disappoints when it comes to great expressions!

C just turn one! We 'celebrated' with a cake smash. I use that term loosely because he mostly cried in his cake more than he ate it. But that made for some cute images too. His big brother turned 4 (I just can't believe that I've been his photographer for that long!). Handsome little guys, aren't they?

And happy little girl H! This little pumpkin was very excited, expressive and on the go. I love her little bonnet!

Referral of 2011 winners!

I often say that I wouldn't be where I am if it weren't for all of you telling all your friends and family about how much you love your portraits from Jungling Photograph, but it seems I can't say thank you enough! Your kind words of praise overwhelm me and I adore being your photographer! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, I can't wait to meet more new referrals this year! This family won the referral of the year for 2011 because they referred one of my brides, who referred another bride, who referred a 3rd bride, who referred a 4th! It was such an unexpected chain reaction that really did make 2011 my best year yet. So to show my appreciation, in addition to their referral bonus I invited them to come in for family portraits and Kelly got right to work planning their session.

I love the outfit choices! Everyone coordinates without being too match-y, nice little punch of color, great texture and patterns. This is a great example of how to dress a family for portraits!

You may have noticed that I added extra copyright symbols on this post. This is something that came from a speaker I heard at convention last week. With the social media explosion and the growing popularity of Pinterest, it is so easy for images to be stolen and used by anyone, anywhere. If one of your images were to get "pinned" it could potentially be seen by anyone, anywhere and then used for purposes you never intended. So to protect you, your children and my ownership of the images, I will be watermarking much more prominently on my blog and on Facebook. I always suggest that EVERYONE watermark all the images they put out on the web, even if they are just personal snap shots, because you just never know where those images could end up. I will gladly help any of you do that at anytime. The internet makes the world a much smaller place, which is wonderful when it comes to bringing people together! But along with the benefits, we can't be too careful about protecting ourselves from the bad!

And along those lines, I love seeing you share the blog and images with your friends and family! I just ask that the images not be altered in anyway. After your order is placed, I'll also gladly give you digital images of the ones you choose watermarked and sized for online posting. Happy sharing!

It is always so nice to meet families that value portraits as a way to keep loved ones close. I'm sure I've talked before about how important I feel family portraits are to the family unit for building values, a sense of belonging and self confidence, and you can bet I'll be talking about it in future posts- it just makes me so happy to work with families who get it. This family was such fun in the studio too, the kids were enjoying cousin time and Grandpa's teasing. I'm sure when they walk past the spot in their homes where these will be displayed, that they will be reminded of the time they spent together. And the out-takes we got will help with that too (see the images at the bottom :D).

Her tiny Valentine...

I love when new babies come to see me! I could seriously cuddle all day with them, and that is exactly what was on this little guy's agenda for the afternoon... every time we tried to lay him on the warm, cozy bean bag, he could just sense that his mommy wasn't right there. Doesn't he just look so peaceful in her arms?

Mom is one off my high school classmates and I'd been following her posts on FB about her pregnancy and delivery. I was so excited to hear the news that her little miracle had arrived and I was even more excited that she agreed to bring him in so I could try out a few new props. It was good to see her, to catch up and to see what amazing mother she is to her little man. Thanks so much for bringing him in to meet me, he is so precious!

And you are as stunning as I remember you from back in the day! Congratulations!

Proud of their family...

And with good reason! They have a beautiful family. I get to see bits of this family often as they come in for milestone portraits of the kids. Last summer I was privileged to be celebrate a wedding with them and I get to celebrate another one with them in May. It really is an honor to get to know families on this level! I am thrilled that they call me to share a small part in their treasured moments! Thank you for that, you are a true blessing to me.

Uncertain little sweetheart...

The nap on the way to the studio may have helped her get over a case of the grumpies, but she was a little uncertain of her surroundings when she woke up. Good thing Daddy knows how to make her smile! We managed to get a few in between quizical looks and finally a few tears- which I happen to think are also adorable and just HAD to snap one of her sad face.

A very loved little Valentine!

This little pixie thought she was just coming in for some family and one year photos over the weekend. I surprised her with a big heart cookie as a prop (and bribery) to help me promote some Valentine's Day mini sessions coming up (see below for more details and some sample Valentines). I think she was happy to accommodate, wouldn't you agree?

Tractors, Trumpets and all that jazz...

This little guy is my buddy, we go way back- 2 years to be exact. He is always full of smiles, but since it had been awhile since we'd seen one another, it took him a bit to get into the mood for his birthday session (nothing a few Smarties couldn't help us out with). Following the tradition of his older brothers, his mom brought props for a profession (or two). Mainly he is toying with being a jazz musician when he grows up, but he may take up farming as a fall back plan.

Over the holidays, I had the opportunity to spend some time with these girls. I know them a little from our church, the youngest is in my girls' youth group class. I've always been amused by her and it was great fun to get to know her a little better and to meet her big sister- who she ADORES! And I suspect secretly adores her in return, but Shhh, don't tell!

The weather was even so nice that we got to go outside a bit- such a treat in late December! Be on the look out for some more outdoor sessions coming soon!

I usually have one or two sneak in after the holidays so there may still be some for the class of 2012. As far as closing out this year, I couldn't have been happier to have any other subject than my youngest cousin! G was born after I graduated from high school (boy that makes me sound old!) so we hadn't really spent much time together before her session. What a hoot! I can't speak for her, but I had a wonderful time spending the day with her! She is so beautiful, talented, bubbly and fun, I'm so glad I had the opportunity to learn those things about her!

Babies are always so amazing to me. Just the wonder of new life and how quickly we fall in complete and utter love with them. This family is so enamored with their sweet little addition! And why shouldn't they be? And isn't there something extra special about a baby around Christmas? The perfect early present and the perfect reminder of what the season is all about!

I know I'm going to enjoy getting to know this family so much more over the next year!

Family Christmas Session...

I love my annual families! It is so nice to see them come in each year and to catch up on what the year has brought to them. This family usually chooses and outdoor location but this year, weather just wasn't on our side for that. I was so excited that the ceiling tile back drop came in just in time for their session, it was the perfect compliment to their outfits!

Baseball and babydolls...

Two is such a fun age! Their little personalities, likes and dislikes really develop and they are fun little people. This little lady ran the show during her session, and honestly, I wouldn't have had it any other way. We played ball, we took care of baby Abby, and every now and then- when it was her idea- we did our playing in front of the camera.

I wish I could have stopped the clock when my kids were 2 and just held onto those moments a little longer. There are times when I wish we could go back to this stage, but then- being almost 6 is pretty awesome too (blog post about that to come in the next week).

Engaged...

I only met this couple briefly before scheduling their wedding and engagement session so most of the "getting-to-know-you" stuff happened during the session. Which is exactly why I love engagement portraits! I get to see what makes each couple special, the chemistry between them and I get a little peek at what makes them special to each other. I've also had the privilege of meeting the parents of both of them, his at the consultation and hers came along to the session to help out with the pooch while he wasn't needed in a shot. I can already see that this is one special family and that they have so much to celebrate when these two tie the knot in 2012!

Family Values...

Last wedding for 2011

I've always thought this church was beautiful from the outside & also wondered what the inside was like, dreamed of being the photographer for a wedding that it hosted and thought about the types of images I'd make on the front steps. It was a dream-come-true that my last wedding of the year was at THIS church!

This bride & groom decided not to see each other until the walk down the isle. It was such an important aspect of their day that I thought we'd better do something special to illustrate it. So here they are before the ceremony, not seeing each other in front of their beautiful church. The bride just couldn't stop smiling when she heard her groom's voice and when they touched hands. Truly a wonderful moment and I'm so glad we got to capture it!

I get to go to a lot of fun locations on sessions, usually ones that I've suggested based on what I know of the family, their lifestyle, what they are going to wear, the look or feeling they want their portraits to have. This family picked a location that is special to them... their camp site in Olin. I'd have to say it was well worth the drive to capture a special moment in a place that is special to them.

Last senior guy of the year...

It has been an amazing year for seniors! I'm sad to see it come to an end, but this exceptional young man was the perfect finale to the season...

The weather was just about perfect, we took quiet a stroll to find these little spots and our only complaint was that our fingers and noses got a little chilled on the way back.

I love that I get to see this family every fall! They have the best interactions and I always come away with a warm heart, even on chilly days like this when my fingers were nearly numb.

And I love that Grandma gets to join in the fun too!

This is one of my favorites... Like I said, it was a chilly afternoon. So every few minutes mom would ask to have her nose warmed up with an Eskimo kiss.

I adore meeting with brides to talk about their wedding plans! But this bride brought a little extra excitement for me- when she came for her consultation she asked if it was ok to bring her mother-in-law to be. Not an unusual request, the surprise was that her guest was the mom of the very first senior guy I photographed in my first year of business! Needless to say, I am more than thrilled to be able to capture more moments for him as he enters another new chapter in life. Meet high school sweethearts K & M...

As we worked on creating the mood for these images, it all came back to me just how funny and silly M is- we had just as much fun on this session as we did back when I did his senior pics. I'm sure the wedding is going to be just as enjoyable and I can't wait to share that special moment with them!

Sometimes a plan just comes together. While planning this little guy's 4 year session, Mom and I were struggling to come up with ideas. Then I remembered that a friend of mine had this little gem available for me to borrow and everything else just came together! The leather jacket and that handsome smile, how could this not be a great time?

He is such a little ham too! I just love it when his family comes to see me !!!!

This little miss just turned 1, perfect timing for their annual family fall portrait session! I love seeing this family for many reasons. I first met them when they were looking for someone to watch their little boy and I was still providing day care in my home but just getting ready to launch Jungling Photography to the public. It is great to see how their family has grown and changed since then and to think back to the very beginning and how far I myself have grown. It has been a wonderful 3+ years! I'm so blessed to have friends like them who helped me get my start, have encouraged me along the way and keep coming back to capture more cherished memories. "Thank you" just doesn't seem big enough to express my gratitude.

And right after this Brother brushed right up against that branch full of burrs! His shirt was so covered in them we had to take it off... Good thing we'd already taken care of the family photos :). Such a B O Y!

My favorite part of senior season...

is the gorgeous fall days and warm light of the afternoons. Last weekend there were still lots of fall colors to frame this lovely young lady. We went to Lake McBride for her outdoor location because they spend a lot of time there as a family. I'm so glad we did... it isn't a place I get to very often but I think it just might become a place I recommend to more clients.

We had lots of fun in the studio too.... You would never guess that she is uncomfortable in front of cameras, she was a natural beauty. I love that my job is hanging out with amazing people like her and her parents, takes the 'work' out of my days!

I also got to play with my new lens a little. I try to get it out each time I'm working outside with someone who can sit still, even if it is just for a shot or two so I can get used to the weight and size of it. So far I really like it!

Family Fun with a Fun Family

I was so happy to do a family session for a dear friend of my sister. I am always so taken by her when I get to spend time with her. Not only is she a gorgeous lady, she has such a beautiful heart. And seeing her with her family just makes me happy! They are silly and there were lots of outtakes but also lots of fun. K man- I owe you 15 tootsie rolls when you come into the studio, I won't forget! My sister is very blessed to have her as a friend & I am too.

This one just makes me smile. Amid all the crazy silliness there is so much love.

This girl has it ALL! She is beautiful, smart, funny and so so sweet. The last time I saw her was at her brother's wedding last fall so it was very fun to catch up with her and her mom and hear about the rest of the family. I adore that my job allows me to build real relationships that last beyond the session! I think I found a bit of a kindred spirit with Miss J.

As I talk with the senior girls that I work with I'm always surprised at how different their self image is from what I see. I hope that by the time we wrap things up they go home seeing themselves in a more realistic light. I've said before that, through the camera's lens, I get to see people the way that God sees them and I love that these images show just how lovely Miss J is, inside and out. We should all know just how fearfully and wonderfully we are made. That we are cherished, beautiful, loved and lovable!

Thanks again for sharing the day with me! I had a wonderful time and I can't wait to see you again.

Gorgeous fall wedding!

It was so amazing to be a part of this special day and to capture the details and the love of this wonderfully fun couple! It was a beautiful day in each and every way. The setting had so many great spots for portraits that gave us some variety, the bride was blushing and the groom completely enamored with his beloved.

This couple is not only completely adorable, they are totally fun and so are their families!

The icing on the cake was the coolest prop I've ever had to work with- a fully restored vintage pickup! I could have played all day if we hadn't had a ceremony to get to.

A Family in the Orchard...

I love apple orchards! My family goes every year and our trip is usually followed by a day of making apple butter, jellies and crisps. The smells that fill the house are intoxicating! This year was a little different, our usual orchard didn't have any apples left for us to pick. But it didn't stop this family from enjoying some time together and with friends. When I heard they were heading out for an apple adventure, I just had to tag along & I'm so glad I did, even if my apple basket still sits empty.

Senior Guy...

I had a great time with this young man and his mom when they came in for his senior session! We rocked through the studio shots pretty quickly so we could get outside before it got too dark. He was a pretty quiet guy so I had a hard time reading him- is he having a good time? Is he liking what we're doing? Have we done all the things he wanted?... But my reward came at the end of the session when he said that he had fun and couldn't wait to see the images. Yay! Mission accomplished. Wait no more, here is your sneak peek!

Picture Perfect!

I have to admit that Mother Nature has been pretty good to me lately when it comes to weddings. The day of this wedding was not a great forecast and with the ceremony taking place outside, I was one nervous photographer! I even tried to pick up a protector for my camera just in case the sprinkles started to fall, but none could be found. All I could do was pray and trust that I wouldn't need one. I'm very thankful that the weather man got the forecast completely wrong! The day couldn't have been more beautiful! Everything on this day was picture perfect....

Another fun thing about this wedding is that I have gotten to know most of the bride's family by working with them over the last few years. Lots of familiar faces in the wedding party and the congregation.

I always feel so honored to spend a wedding day with a couple. Being the photographer I kind of get a behind-the-scenes look. This couple's schedule didn't exactly go as we had planned (FYI, wedding days rarely do), but everyone got there, the bride was radiant, the groom was giddy, vows were exchanged, and their hearts and the ones of their friends and family were filled with so much love and joy! I love fall for so many reasons... the cool crisp air, the warm colors of the trees and grass, and I love that I get to see families that I haven't seen since the were in to have fall pictures the year before. This family first came to see me last fall for an extended family session and I was thrilled to hear from them about doing more this year. I was equally thrilled to hear that they are expecting a new baby in just a month, so I'll be seeing quite a bit of them before next fall as Baby grows.

I love early morning sessions, the light is soft and warm, usually... on the morning of this session the clouds had rolled in and "scattered showers" threatened to scatter all over the meadow we'd decided on as our location. All the way there I watch the clouds and prayed that we would stay dry just long enough to get a few images. As I got closer there were a few breaks in the clouds and my hopes raised. By the time I pulled up the sun had found it's way through and I just knew this was going to be a great session. When I met the kids they were excited and cooperative, this just kept getting better and better! I was in heaven, how much more perfect could it get? I would have to wait until I edited to find out....

I have been trying to get together with my sister and her boyfriend since I got back from a workshop in Ohio last May! Needless to say I was thrilled when we finally made time to go out on the town after dark on Sunday! It took a little longer to find the light than it does in the day time and there were times/ areas that were just about too dark to focus. But once we worked all that out and got into the swing of things, we really started to have fun. Now that I'm editing, I can hardly stop with just a few. I just love the way they interact with one another, how much fun they have together and I can see how much they care for each other and just what a great match he is for my baby sis. I had such a great time that I cannot WAIT to take some clients out to Light-the-Night! These sessions will be pretty limited, especially with the busy fall season starting up, so give me a call to book yours soon!

I was so worried about the rain in the forecast for this wedding last weekend! So many of the things the bride and I had talked about were planned for outside locations. Fortunately, the church had areas inside that worked just as nice when the sky open up. It was a beautiful day in that church- beautiful bride, handsome groom, wonderful couple with wonderful families, and an abundance of love. I don't know if what I had planned could have turned out any better than what we were blessed with. I'm so excited to share a few images from your day and so honored to have shared it with you, congratulations!

We did get outside a little, but we still got wet.

And when the weather gives you rain, you may as well capitalize on it.

A new ETSY store...

A very talented friend of mine has decided to put her gifts to work for her. I have had her paint a mural in my girls' bedroom and the swirl on the wall of my studio is all her. While she does amazing things on walls, she has decided to go a little smaller with canvases or whatever else she can get her paint brush on. So far she has mostly done whimsical pieces for child but I know she is capable of pretty much anything so don't hesitate to contact her to see what she can come up with for a special space in your home! Already some of my clients have had her do some custom pieces for them because they go so well with their wall portraits. I hope that soon we can collaborate on some pieces to make some very cool custom and personalized wall art pieces for any decor with your family images.

It must have been black & gold week last week, all the kiddos came in decked out in their Hawkeye gear... I'm feeling like I need to balance the scales with the Cardinal & Gold that are favored at our house (anyone out there Iowa State fans? I'd love to have your colors grace the blog sometime!)

Surprising that in my 3 years of being a CR area photographer that this was my FIRST senior from Kennedy High school! I'm thrilled to finally have photographed students from all 6 of the public high schools in Cedar Rapids & Marion.

I'm also thrilled to share this sneak peek with you. I had the BEST time with this beautiful young lady and her mom! I seriously could have spent all day with them if it weren't for the heat/ humidity and the time crunch I had to get ready for a 2nd session that day (baby cuteness coming in a future sneak). We started our morning together with my friend and fabulous stylist, Tina, who worked her magic straightening the super curly hair this senior has and making her look even more gorgeous! I love when Tina helps me with senior girls! It makes my job easier in SO many ways- most importantly in making them feel as amazing on the inside as they look on the outside & that just makes for great portraits! I LOVE this image from a wedding a couple weeks ago! Actually I love a lot of the images from this wedding. But this one in particular stands out to me because I get to see all the crazy activity that is involved in every wedding day (some more than others) but in this moment, the couple wasn't thinking about all the details- no, this image isn't about all that, this image is about two people in love who can find peace and comfort in one another in the midst of so much activity. This is why I love photographing weddings!

It is pretty exciting to me when a new baby comes into the studio, even more so when it is some one I know bringing that baby to me! Back in my wedding coordinator days I coordinated the wedding for this little one's mom & dad and it was such a pleasure to share this special moment with them as well!

Little Miss is simply perfect! She decided to stay awake for awhile after her tummy was full but it didn't take long for her to be coaxed into dream land and wasn't at all bothered by my moving her all over- which you can see by some of these adorable expressions!

It took him a bit to get back in the mood to be in front of the camera but once we started climbing around and jumping off things he was all about it. Full of spunk and brimming with cuteness! I actually saw this beauty twice last week, first just her in Amana and then in the studio with her cousins (sneak peek coming next week). Boys of Summer Sessions...

I don't usually do sports photos but when I was in a workshop last month I was struck by inspiration. We learned how to use small flashes off camera to create dramatic light and vibrant, saturated colors at less than ideal times of day when the sun is blaring and harsh. Before I even left the workshop I put out a call for some models and one that I wanted to try my hand at was a baseball player. My cousin's son was perfect for this personal project! He loves the game and as hard as he tried not to enjoy being doted on, I think he got a bit of pleasure out of it.

While it was a shaky start to the session (when the flash doesn't fire, make sure the power is ON and the transmitter is in place) I feel like I grew in my skills and really played with the light in ways I'd only done in class.

I LOVE photographing kids doing they love to do! And now I can do it with some drama. If you'd like to book a "Boys of Summer" or other session for your young athletes, contact me soon- school starts in one month!

Down town fun...

In spite of the heat we walked around down town this weekend to get some fun portraits of this family, and actually- it wasn't all that bad with the breeze coming off the river. The kids were surprisingly cooperative for a long time (Mom must have bribed them with something amazing :o). As a mom of multiples, I know quite a few other MOMs and it is always a pleasure to have sessions with them. This mom & I were part of the same mothers of multiples club and although I didn't renew my membership this year, I still hold the friendships I made very near and dear to my heart and this family is certainly no exception! Thanks for braving the elements and being so up to trying some new things and locations, it was a great time & I absolutely love the images we created, I hope you do too!

Yep! Just got back from Disney World in FL and brought his new little friend in for his 18 month pictures. I know his family pretty well so usually he is all smiles for me but he has entered into a "just want to snuggle Mommy" stage and it is the first time I've made portraits of him so it took a little coaxing (and, of course- Smarties) to loosen him up. Isn't he such a cutie? I just wanted to sit and play all morning with him. Thanks for bringing him in, Mom & Dad! Looking forward to seeing Big Brother (and perhaps the family?) in the fall!

As moms, we love portraits of our kids and when we start to plan a session we have these visions of perfectly behaved children sitting exactly they way they are asked and smiling so sweetly. The truth is that is not the norm- kids have their own agenda (playing) and portraits are work, who wants to work on such a beautiful (hot) day? This pair of twinkies were not so much into having traditional portraits made of them last weekend (a familiar scenario to me since my own twins RARELY want to be in front of my camera). But once we got to the park, they were having fun exploring the garden and I got to capture that. They still made me work for it- my stash of Smarties is greatly depleted, I got ~~a little~~ very sweaty and there are lots of out takes. But then there were moments like these:

Remember back in May when we did the book-a-session-give-a-session benefit for Aid To Women? Well, this is the final booked session that allowed me to give 10 sessions to moms from ATW. We did one with this little guy and his mom in May and they knew they wanted to do a baseball one with Dad once summer arrived. Thank you to all who booked sessions and helped out with this amazing project! The moms were so touched by your kindness and generosity for them and they are loving their portraits! It inspired me to put a portion of all session fees aside so I can do more project like it through out the year.

All the babies that appeared on the blog over the winter are coming back in for their Grins & Giggles sessions. It is just such a fun stage when they've gained enough coordination over their hands to grab hold of their little feet. This little bug and I played quite a bit while mom and big sister read books across the room before we got Sis in on a few shots too. She was such a little sweetie, so engaging and expressive. It was hard not to want to pick her up all the time.

At first we weren't so sure this little miss was going to slip into dreamland for us, she was all wide eyed after she had her tummy filled up. I was so pleasantly surprised that once I got ahold of her those little eyes got SOOOOO heavy and I got to right to work.

Mom also wanted some natural lifestyle images of the family in their home, I LOVE incorporating living spaces like this! It just seems to put a sense of context into the image. Here are a few from that series:

I love doing engagement sessions for my brides and grooms and I can't tell you how special and valuable this time with them is to me! I get to see them interact together, who they are and what their comfort zone is before the big day- which makes the wedding day portraits so much easier for all of us. These love birds are no exception. I had so much fun with them and their little man. I really enjoyed seeing them as a family and how completely in love this groom-to-be is with his bride-to-be. I'm SO excited for their wedding and can't wait to make more portraits for them.

I should also note that this is the same location as the last engagement that I posted. It is amazing how I can go to Main Amana so many times and get so many different looks based on where we decide to pose, the time of day and the weather (sun light or lack of). These were taken closer to sunset and by the time we finished the rain was starting- again.

And a fun one at that! We started at their ranch in southern Iowa and then hopped on horses and a hay wagon for the drive down the road to the quaint little church. Both the church and the reception hall were decorated with little touches that reflect this couples life of rodeo, including a mechanical bull! We started pretty early in the day before the clouds had a chance to break up but by the end of the day we were getting some blue skies and sunshine- perfect for using the new techniques I learned at a recent workshop. I really had a great time and I'm honored that they chose me to capture memories for them that I'm sure they will cherish all of their days. Congrats!

Senior season is upon us...

and it is looking to be a great one! I've had a couple of seniors roll through in the last couple weeks and more are on the way. I couldn't more excited about it, new seniors, new ideas, new studio, new locations and thanks to a workshop I just attended, some new techniques.

This young man and his mom met me in Amana on a bright sunny morning. Have I mentioned that Amana is my favorite location? Well it is, I just love the variety it has to offer and each time I go I find something new to use or see things in a completely different way than the time before.

I first met this bride-to-be when I photographed their son's senior pictures last fall but this was the first time I got to know her groom. What a hoot getting to know them as a couple! And working with them was a dream. This pair was up for pretty much anything I could come up with for their engagement session. It took them no time to get comfortable in front of the camera and we got to a point where they understood my posing terms and even anticipated what I was going to ask of them. Their story is a very interesting one, years in the making- I'm so honored to be a part of their "happily-ever-after!

It is such a personal relationship between a couple and their photographer! I'm so glad we've had this opportunity to get acquainted- I'm very much looking forward to your wedding next year!

It seems like we've been stuck inside forever! I was so happy last week to be able to get outside for a couple of sessions. This little family was just the jump start I needed for playing outside. We had lots of fun and found a couple new spots.

By now you've probably heard about the new space I'll be moving into very soon. I can't tell you how excited I am for this change! It is going to be so nice to have all my props and backdrops easy to get to and ready to use, everything set up and ready to go when I am. I got to pick up the keys today so I thought I'd make a few images to share with you. A nice surprise was that the new flooring has been delivered & will start to be installed before the end of the week.

Weddings are a big deal. So much planning and so many details all come together for one very special day. I love weddings! Everything about them- the dress, the cake, the flowers, the vows, down to the tiny little favors at the tables. But what I love most is seeing the start of something wonderful- a marriage. We were supposed to do formals outside in a nearby park but the clouds rolled in & the wind kicked up so we opted to stay inside- with a venue like the ARA gallery, it was hard to be disappointed in that. What a cool place!

My little ones

It has been hard to find the time to capture my little ladies at the ripe old age of 5 and a third years. But last Thursday everything fell into place, nothing on the calendar, the girls were in the mood, they were excited to wear their Easter dresses and let me fix their hair, a friend let me have the keys to her studio for the day- I just couldn't let the opportunity pass me by. Grace & Sarah rocked it for the camera and for the first time since- well... EVER- I had a pretty stress-free photo shoot with my girls. We actually had fun! Usually they are by far my most difficult subjects but they gave me these moments as an early Mother's Day gift. I could not have asked for anything better, my heart is full and I am so blessed!

I've had a 10x20 frame for about a year now & have been waiting for the perfect picture to put in it. I think I'll have a hard time deciding between these two:

I love spring! I love that the days are longer. I love when the temps get high enough that I can walk barefoot in the grass. I love watching for signs of nature coming back to life all around. For me, spring fever sets in around the first week of January- when the first batch of seed catalogs arrive in my mail box. I am far from a master gardener but I do enjoy playing in the dirt and watching my plants grow and flowers bloom, even pulling the weeds (ok, not as much as planting and tending but it comes with the territory). A few days ago the first flowers bloomed at our house. That made me wander the yard to find other signs of life. Here is a little of what I found:

This little doll came to see me last week. It was quite a chore to keep her in the camera room and engaged.

There were lots of breaks, snacks, singing and we even said a few prayers.

And I knew they were answered when I saw this on the back of my camera:

Senior Rep Event starting soon

I'm ready to get a start on seniors for the class of 2012 and I need a few models to kick off the season. I'm looking for one guy & one girl from each of the area schools to come have their pictures made in May. I'll have a stylist here for hair & make up, snacks & lunch provided (you'll be spending the better part of a day with me). I'll be scheduling as many in the same day as I can so everyone will be hanging out and we'll go to a couple of off-site locations too.

There is no session fee for and you can earn discounts on your prints by referring your friends. Parents- this is a great way to save $$$ on your seniors pictures! For each friend that your student refers you get 5% off your print order- if they refer 5 friends, that's 25% off, 10 friends= 50%! See the savings add up.

So what I need to start the selection process is an email from anyone interested. Tell me your hobbies, school activities, a little about yourself, your sense of style, contact information of you and your parents and days/ times you're available. I also need a current picture.

SO excited for wedding season!

I have my first wedding of the year in just a few weeks and I absolutely cannot wait! I adore weddings, every little thing about them. Especially getting to know the couples before the big day. We have a meeting or two that help with that but most of our connections happen at the engagement session.

I get to learn how they interact together, what makes them smile, what poses they are comfortable in, which ones they are not. I become familiar with their genuine expressions and honest emotions for one another.

I've worked with this pair before so we skipped the formalities and got right to making the images they want for their guest book at their wedding next month. I had fun testing out some different lighting techniques, a new lens and a new assistant and I was very pleased with all of them (Thanks, Little Brother, for tagging along). If only that sky would have had a little color in it for us, we'll put that on our wish list for the wedding day.

My First Blog & I couldn't be more excited about the topic!

Or more nervous, because this is also my first charity event! I have been looking for a way to give back for a long time when an idea struck me out of the blue. As a mom, having portraits of my kids is huge- having portraits of me WITH my kids is a treasure, since I'm usually the one holding the camera. What about those moms who never have the opportunity for either? I just knew there had to be a way for me to impact and enrich their lives, but I need your help!

I've always admired Aid To Women not only for what they do, but how they do it so partnering with them was a very easy choice. So here is where all of you come in. In the month of April I will be holding a book-a-session-give-a-session event for Mother's day. For a $50 session fee you get a mini session with you and your kids (even if they are all grown & have kids of their own) and 2 5x7s. That session fee will fund a session just like yours for a new mom client of Aid To Women. Additional prints may also be purchased and 50% of the proceeds will go directly to Aid To Women programs. Sessions can be held in the studio anytime in April or I will be setting aside Friday April 15th and Saturday April 16th for outdoor sessions, weather permitting. I will pick a site and and just line up as many sessions for that spot as I can.

Even if you just had pictures taken or are planning a session in the next couple months, you can still participate. A $25 donation will fund the 'give-a-session' for one of the ATW moms. Or contact me to let me know that you want to 'give-a-session' as part of your upcoming session fee (no additional cost to you, I just need you to pay for your session in advance).

Another way to help is to spread the word! So please, post this blog post on your FB page, send a link to all your friends, ask me for fliers to hang up or hand out, tell everyone you know.
